Marvel at the Royal Botanic Gardens

The Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens are one of the world’s leading botanic gardens, a cultural haven and a centre of excellence for horticulture, science and education.

Nestled amongst skyscrapers, the 38 hectare gardens are a true oasis in the heart of the city and welcome joggers, lunching professionals, botany enthusiasts and tourists to pause and enjoy a moment of serenity.

The gardens are a popular venue for events, like the Moonlight Cinema showing advance screenings, new releases and cult classic films under the stars over summer. The Australian Shakespeare Company recently used the gardens as the scene for a childrens performance of Wind in the Willows, a timeless classic. Garden tours run regularly. A full programme of events can be found here.

The Melbourne Botanic Gardens are located on Birdwood Avenue, and are open from 7.30am to sunset, every day of the year. Admission is free.

Not to be forgotten are the Cranbourne gardens, the second Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria site. This 363 hectare property is one of Victoria’s most precious areas of remnant native bushland and is recognised as a site of State significance for flora and fauna conservation. The gardens feature extensive walking and cycling tracks, a lookout tower, shelters, barbecues and picnic tables plus a visitor centre with café and gift shop.

These contemporary Australian gardens are located on the corner of Ballarto Road and Botanic Drive, Cranbourne and are open 9am – 5pm daily, closed on Christmas Day. Admission is free.
